We left Mazatlan on Presidents day, on a 2 day
passage to La Cruz via Isla Isabel.
I have wanted to stop on Isla Isabel for while as everyone says it is not to be missed and it defiantly was on
my list of “must do” before we left Mexico.
Isla Isabela is a remote island that is a bird rookery. Here you will
see nesting Frigate and Bobbies. The cool part is that the birds do not think
of you as a threat so you can walk right up to the nests and the babies.
We arrived early in the morning and anchored near the
fishing camp, lowered the dingy and went to explore. I think the pictures will
speak for themselves of this remarkable site. In addition to all the birds
there are LOTS of iguana’s and other lizards, a bit disconcerting as you walk through the grass and hear them
scurry away under your feet!
We spend the rest of the day resting up for our next
overnight sail to La Cruz. We have an uneventful passage (no wind so a motor
ride). We anchor at the lovely Punta Mita for two days before heading into the marina
at La Cruz. La Cruz is one of our favorite places in Mexico, and we feel right
at home. Sadly this is where we will end
our time in Mexico. We plan on setting sail for the South Pacific at the end of
March.
More on that in the next blog.
